Every woodworking project requires the convergence of several elements so that the finished product is much greater than the sum of its parts. The skill and artistry required come from the maker; tools can be bought or made. Getting the correct tonewood for a specific project should not be difficult, but in our experience, this has frequently been the toughest challenge. When purchasing instrument wood in the past we ran into the same types of disappointments that many other people have described: the assessment of the wood's quality was very subjective; some wood was not seasoned; the cut size was inadequate.

Because of these experiences, we set out to acquire several lifetimes' worth of very fine wood. There are many ways to saw a log, but we cut our wood for quality rather than quantity, to get the largest yield of premium-quality wood possible. We grade each piece carefully so you can be assured that what you choose from us will be exactly what arrives in your order.

We have enough stock of fine maple, spruce, and other species of wood native to Canada to last any instrument maker several lifetimes. We differ from conventional suppliers through the care that we take over grading every piece of wood that we sell. We would never sell a piece of wood that we wouldn't use in our own shop.
